The OPS Community Equity Council would like to congratulate Rawlson King, the chair of the CEC, in his successful bid for Councillor for Rideau-Rockcliffe ward.
It is especially significant that Rawlson is the first Black City Councillor in the history of Ottawa. We know at the CEC that representation in all public institutions is critical to ensure that all members of our community feel a sense of belonging and a sense of inclusion in Ottawa.
In his short tenure as chair, Rawlson has shown that good leadership includes addressing complex issues without polarization, and being willing to listen until we get to a point of resolution. The City of Ottawa is very fortunate to have this quality person join City Council.
We are extremely grateful that we were able to have Rawlson as our chair for this short period of time, and wish him all the best on City Council.
